I see in a lot of novice writing, but also in published novels, writers showing off to the point where as I'm reading they're using some strange word that I've never heard before or an elaborate description. It's hard for me to actually articulate what it is I'm talking about, except that when I see it, I know it. And I never see Ursula doing that. What I see instead is such beauty in her lines without that showing off,. so that it's flowing along in a way that creates an image in my mind and I get drawn into the story completelyWithout thinking about the writer's hand moving the words around.
