The Politics of Art
I think at some point maybe I'll have us do the boys of Lane Locke debate on the relationship between art and politics, because the boy says this very strange point that people have been trying to figure out. And so Schiller starts talking about this notion of the mission of the artist is you, yes, to be a child of your age, but not to simply be a mere expression of one's age. And he does want art to be politically enabling. So it isn't itself politics, but it creates the space for generating the type of ideals or the type of harmony from which a new politics could emerge.
