He argues that investors focus too much on quarterly earnings and not enough on long-term value creation. If shareholders are the problem, there's nothing wrong with shareholder value, he says. But if they're short termism, then maybe CEO pay should be lengthened by giving them shares for seven or ten years at a time - making them continue to hold after retirement.
