The Book of Revelation Is a Scriptural Critique of the Roman Empire
The book of Revelation is the prophetic critique of the Roman Empire. It's done in the genre of Jewish apocalyptic literature. If I had my way, preachers would have to obtain a special license before they could preach from the book of Revelation. There are plenty of places in what we call the Old Testament that says thus and so saw God, but he does it anyway.
