Steroids induce a negative calcium balance. Steroids both decrease intestinal absorption of calcium and increase excretion of calcium in the urine. And that's why steroid induced osteoporosis is very common. The risk of fractures increases even just on 2.5 to 7 point milligrams of prednisone daily.
