Why Have Faiths?

In previous generations of catholics, the claim that faith is a response to the word of god would not have been newse catechetical forms of the act of faith memorized by generations of cath school children made it explicit how wild those acts of faith go. The assertion that god is now present, speaking to us through the scripture, tradition and the preaching of the church was a completely new thought for her. Without going any step further, without demanding any proof of the presence of god speaking, either now or in the past, she just accepted it.
