The Importance of God's Name in Oaths

There is only one kind of oath that calls upon god as witness and judge solemn speech does not appeal to god may be called an oath by others. atheist cannot take oath because we cannot pretend that an oath is something other than someone calling upon god's name. If a solemn promise does not include god his witness and judge it is not an oath. We are invoking the wrath of the divine on somebody if we invoke god's name in something  that is not correct or intended to wound or hurt. The misuse of god's name just by itself can depreciate him so we don't really have that sense of the holiness of it, he says.
