There's been a certain amount of western engagement in the sahel. France has signalled that its winding down that campaign. And similarly with american troops in samalia. But the lesson afghanistan would be that strictly, military campaigns against this kind of jahadism aren't especially effective. i think ultimately it's going to require better governments in the countries that are particularly vulnerable.
