The US and China - The Importance of Transparency
The intangibility of some aspects of US engagement makes it more of a challenge to promote it. The Chinese sometimes I think are blinded to the fact that a lot of people in Africa and in other developing countries really admire China's economic trajectory from the 1970s to the present. But we're not that keen on the autocracy. We don't like the lack of transparency. And people in Nigeria and Kenya and even here in Southeast Asia, look at this as a buffet where it's not a one size fits all.
