The Difficult Times of the Pueblos
The Pueblos have been living in the Southwest for, as I said, a thousand years. They know how to deal with lack of rainfall. And their strategy was to have enough stored food to make it through those tough periods. When the Spaniards appear on the scene, they basically collect all of that stored food. This also predisposes them to be even more susceptible to the diseases that are introduced.
