How to Calculate the Distance Between Earth and Space

From the ISS, you can see just over 2000 kilometers in every direction. The tallest building on earth is 828 meters tall and it's a kilometer high rounded to the nearest kilometer. So if you were at the top of it, 828 meters up, you could see 103 meters away. But I feel like we're now ironically moved too far away from the original question,. which was on earth.
