The Q and the Modular People

The fate of the lizard herders was locked when the Q stunted their mental capabilities. They were never able to achieve sentience and never advanced as a species. The nightmarish existence of the colonials would eventually evolve into several offshoots of the species. Instead of living as one homogenous mass of carpet flesh, they merged into separate colonies. Over time, one colony emerged victorious, known as the modular people. This vastly intelligent sect would combine themselves, split apart, or exchange parts interchangeably to serve a specific function to advance the species as a whole. In this utopia, billions lived joyful lives as part of a unified organism.
