The Side Effects of Spinal Injury

When you injure your spine, the area around it swells up and kills cells. The swelling is caused by ATP, a chemical that gives cells energy. A team of researchers found an ATP blocking compound they could give intravenously. They injected oxidized ATP into test rats and it stopped the swelling. But what's not great is that this substance can't be used in real world human medical applications.
