The Rise and Fall of Harlem
Gentrification played a big part in this too. As New York started to get more and more gentrified, those families that lived uptown moved south where the cost of living is cheaper. Those cities like Atlanta and New Orleans saw a big spike in homicide. People are still getting killed in Harlem all the time. But it seems so senseless compared to the violence of the 80s and the 90s.
