The Rise of AI Nationalism

The amount of money being spent on AI research and commercialisation will go up 10 to 100 times over the next decade. Machine learning will become a critical differentiator between states, both economically, militarily and technologically. It will trigger an increasing arms race which causes progress in AI to speed up further. Nationalism historically has been a very dangerous path and it's particularly dangerous when international norms are in flux as a result. I believe that AI should be developed as a global public good accessible to all peoples of all countries. But that will require a kind of fundamental change into retrojectory from the AI nationalism path we're on today.
