The Impact of Microplastics on the Ecosystem
A new study found higher levels of microplastics around the retreat line of summer sea ice. This may be due to a biological highway of sorts. Currents then transport microplastics up into the Arctic, where they swirl around and eventually settle in sediment. The cycling of microplastic through the Arctic Ocean may ultimately affect the food chain.
