The Benefits of Not Thinking Your Way Out of Trauma

When our nervous system senses anything simpler, it takes us right back to that moment. So that trigger could be a smell. It could be a sound. Some of the traumatic experiences from my childhood are related to physical violence. And for a long time I couldn't watch boxing because the sound of flesh hitting flesh triggered me. That's something involuntary that lies within you that is woken up by unrelated circumstances that have related elements. Those triggers can be worked on and lessened and healed.
