Nehru's Strategic Response to the Kashmiri Crisis
In 1950 there is a sort of communal violence against Hindus in what was East Bengal or East Pakistan today Bangladesh. The issue took such magnitude that the Indian government finally had to threaten Pakistan with force if Kashmiri minorities were not protected. Nehru writes a very interesting letter to Patel he says that there is a constant call for vicarious punishment of Muslims in India in response to what is happening to Hindus in Pakistan. That whole episode has a certain kind of implications for Kashmir primarily through the sort of impact that it has on Shakabdula.
