The Supreme Court's Decision to Reject Independent State Legislators

North Carolina Supreme Court struck down the GOP's congressional map because it was a partisan gerrymander. Republicans claimed that the US Constitution forbids state courts from policing state legislatures regarding any laws concerning federal elections at all. This is known as the quote unquote independent state legislature theory, and it flies in the face of centuries of understanding of both state and federal constitutional law.
