The Problems of Autism Assessment
I think the issue is autism assessment is very problem saturated narrative as it is. When you look at these reports it can be really jarring to read about yourself or your young child all of these horrific things. And so when you have a kiddo who is struggling with sensory stuff or is getting overwhelmed easily in the preschool classroom you're not seeing that as the sum of who that person is. I don't know if I've either ever looked at a clinical autism assessment report. To me it's almost viscerally jarring how deficit centered it is.
