Are We Teaching Young People to Drive Stick When There Are No Stick Shifts?
I've been focusing the last several years of my life trying to get young people excited about programming. I'm currently trying to teach my son to drive and he doesn't want to learn to drive stick because there are no stick shifts in, in the US. But overseas, half the cars are stick shift. And I think that you're a better driver if at least you know how to drive stick once. So then the analogy goes, do we make the young people suffer with assembly and see and then give them garbage collected languages? That's a good question.
