Urem and the thumim may be a way to discern the will of the Lord. They were two stones that felt and weighed exactly the same, but they're clearly marked. The one who does them, meaning all the commandments of the Levitical cult, shall live by them. That doesn't mean that these people are being given a legalistic ladder that they're using to climb their way back into God's presence.
