The idea of cognitive dissonance is that when you have a prediction that is so concrete that it can literally be shown to be wrong. And so these groups become missionary when the profsies fail. So what happened is when the Millerite thing failed, you started getting all these offshoots. The Seventh Day Adventists had various offshoots over time. One of the offshoots became the Davidians. And one of the leaders of the branch, Davidians, became David Koresh.
