The Importance of Teaching
I didn't dare apply anywhere that wasn't English speaking because I couldn't speak any other languages and I had prejudices against applying to the US. And so the filter for applying was like lectureships in the area of functional programming. It certainly wasn't going into a hotbed of functional programming there. That was my own first introduction to like declarative programming, which is just such a mixed course. One person teaching logic programming with research interest in logic programming I think said well let's have a course on this so we had a course on declarative Programming. But it took several years to make that happen.
