The RSF and the Sudan Armed Forces
The RSF emerged from the conflict in Darfur and stood up by President Al-Bashir. They were a kind of a useful counterweight to the Sudan Armed Forces, both operationally but also politically for Bashir. There has been growing tension between these two factions as they negotiate the terms under which the rapid support forces would be folded into the Sudan Armed Force. And that is what has triggered the current outbreak of violence.
