The Importance of Psychoanalysis in Eco-Critic Thinking
I turn to psychoanalysis really as a way of thinking through, of making sense of my own dissatisfaction with eco-criticism. I would even say that the main thrust of a lot of environmental criticism is opposed to a kind of robust thinking about subjectivity or the psyche. And so far as it tends to try and liquidate the subject and make it just one object among countless others. So for all these reasons, I found it necessary to change my toolkit and look at this body of theory which seems utterly kind of incompatible and foreign to the protocols of eco-criticism.
