The Importance of Community
My father was a minister in the Church of Scotland, which I suppose you arguably has a certain theatricality to it. My first job was with 784 Scottish People's Theatre. It wasn't quite at this sort of pointy end of its activism by then, but it was still doing. The first play I did with them was a Brecht play. We did a production of the Resistible Rise of Arturui,. Which is a play about warning against the rise of fascism. That's not specifically why I took the job. But straight out of drama school, you'll take anything. Had there been a sort of right-wing equivalent, I might not have thought of it.
