The Importance of Happiness
From the 50s to the 90s, we got a tremendous amount of stuff that makes us pretty easily definable as richer than in the 50s. How many rooms per person? Big difference. The happiness didn't change at all. We got much richer, no change in the happiness. When we asked about depression, more depression. And there's a status bump and a money bump that you go from really bad to okay and that's a real bump. But after that, it's a story of diminishing returns.
