The Sanctuary of Artemis Laphria

Artemis' identity as a mistress of wild nature is expressed to the location of her sanctuaries, which were often in rural areas. In Samos, she was known as Caprifagos, or Boer Eater, presumably because wild boars were offered to her. The battles of Artemision and Salamis were also commemorated with festivals for Artemis. Her saving power was felt by the Athenians in their times of dire peril.
