The Rise and Fall of the Kleptocracy
Kleptocracy was created in the 19th century to talk about essentially mafia gangs, but it was repurposed by a very interesting Polish sociologist in the 1960s. He noticed how these people managed to transform corruption from the sort of standard suitcase or an envelope full of money into stealing genuinely whole industries. And that's a function of corruption meeting the globalized financial system. We're not talking about just fraud as if that wasn't serious enough. We're talking about global grand theft, nation, scale, fraud which is a terrifying concept and with appalling numbers of victim.
