The Decline of China's Population
After the Second World War, Japan recovered with an extraordinary surge of exports. The Japanese population peaked in the 80s and they have got old before they got rich. So imagine what's happening in China - India is now as of last month, the world's most popular country. It means that what is on offer for China is an autocratic menu. And my sense is that I don't think that I share some American commentators view that China had to become democratic. it never will.
