The History of Artificial Speech

Before anybody actually made a machine that could approximate or synthesize a human voice and produce intelligible speech, people were thinking about this as a concept. So many of them had faith, whether real or imagined these machines, so many of them early on had heads or faces. It's like the presence of a head or a face was considered important or at least desirable. You've got to understand what it actually is on an entirely new level first.
