Google's Lawsuit Against the Authors Guild Over the Creation of Google Books
Google was sued by the authors guild over the creation of Google books. Authors Guild refused like they went through in another town to settle on that over the course of a decade this dragged through the courts. Eventually Google won the court said this is fair use. It's transformative. But what generative AI is doing is arguably far more transformative than what Google books did right. They didn't compensate them originally they offered to but subsequently so that CCC consents compensation credit for showing snippets.
