Adam smith was part of a group of thinkers i the late eighteenth century who were all rethinking how wealth is generated and how economy really works. The british are the ones who, more than anybody else, have to confront the intellectual challenges that this creates. And so long as the british keep supplying the highest quality goods at the lowest prices, the wealth will just go up and up and up - it's a difficult one to wrap your head around.

What is it Good For? He has published many scholarly books and has directed excavations in Greece and Italy. His new book is Geography is Destiny: Britain’s Place in the World: A 10,000-Year History.
