Iriva women were enslaved until the 1800s, in 1813 they revolted for their right to cover their breast. The British tricked us into thinking that Victorian morality would emancipate us from Brahmanikil patriarchy but all we really got was the right to imitate it. I feel a certain kind of pressure to say everything about the history of women from my caste because a history has been lied about for so long,. There is a lot of rage and grief," she says.
