The Difference Between Persistent Depressive Disorder and Dysthymic Disorder
The DSM-5 published by the American Psychiatric Association pulled together several different diagnoses that had been present since the days of DSM-3 in 1980. So dysthymic disorder is a subtype of persistent depressive disorder. It was really subsumed under that larger umbrella condition and it includes people who have chronic major depression which would be similar symptoms but more severe.
