The Sun Is 400 Times Bigger Than the Moon

There's not a solar eclipse every month, so why is that? Well, part of the reason is the way the moon orbits the Earth, it's not a perfect circle. And that means there are only two times a year when the moon lines up with the Earth just the right way to block out the sun. The sun also has to be in just the right spot, and as you know, even though the moon orbits our Earth, the Earth orbits the sun. So everything has to line up perfectly to get an eclipse, and that's why it's so rare, because it doesn't happen that often.
