"I think it was Ned who came to me with that idea and says, like, let's just turn this into a book," he said. "My first draft was, I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 85 to 90,000 words." The author spent 12 weeks working on his novel about an ex-convict whose life is turned upside down by drug use. He described Toby as being reckless and dangerous but not afraid of anything.
