Ancient Babylon and the Assyrian Empire

Xenophon describes a deserted city that was once inhabited by the Medes. Nearby is a pyramid of stone, a plethora in breadth and about 100 feet tall. And archaeologists now identify this city as the ruined Assyrian city of Nimrud. Xenophon says Zeus rendered the inhabitants thunderstruck, and thus the city was taken. But that's some story they're probably hearing from the locals.
