The History of Hindustan Motors

In 1952, Hindustan Motors announced that they would manufacture thousand pieces of a 10-horsebar diesel engines in their Calcutta factory every year. The automobile industry had been claiming protection from what it called unfair competition. In 1953, acting on the recommendations of the tariff commission, the government of India terminated the activities of automobile assemblers who did not have any manufacturing programs.
