The Apollo program is interesting because long before the Kennedy gave any speech about putting a man on the moon and bringing him safely back, that was the theme of a paper from the British Interplanetary Society in the late 1930s. They sketched out how you could do it now based on the knowledge of a V2 rocket, etc. In this case, that was a proof of concept. But yes, it's possible to build a rocket and get to the moon. It's just that a better rocket could certainly be designed if you actually put your mind to it... but I haven't really heard much about where we're at. We're actually trying to implement some kind of whole brain
