The Holiday Principle: What Is Science For?
The holiday principle is an idea or value to inspire how science should be organized. This seems to be a foundational principle in scientific organization and funding throughout the world. It says societal needs should not directly impose or constrain the research. Scientists are accountable to society in, in what they do. They're being paid to produce useful knowledge that can be used for inventions.
