Caesar's Invasion of Rome
In 55 b c e, caesar wrote to si ro informing him that he intended a complete and full evacuation of britannia by the middle of september. And those are legal terms that provided the first steps in forming a province out of a conquered territory. In the end, caesar's two invasions were a failure. He defeated the britons in virtually every military engagement, but he was unable to extend the borders of rome on to the island. Ten years later, he would be dead on the senate floor, and britannian free from roman rule for nearly a century.
