I Think He Was Very Impressed by the Power of Algarisms in Artificial Intelligence
Turing's interest in the nature of the mind went back much further, at least to christopher morkam's death. His 19 36 analysis of what a tearing machine would bewhat, why this was the right definition of what we now call an algarism. That analysis involves a philosophical discussion of what a human mind is doing in following procedure. And perhaps most importantly, as andrew has pointed out, the way in which turing's combination of a penetrating insight into what electronics and digital electronics could do with the idea of what programmes could do,. all of that was being developed at bletchley park.
