The Prussian Army was inexperienced and behind the times when it came to tactics and doctrine. The Saxon Army was even less experienced and professional than the Prussian military. Both officers and soldiers felt they were being forced to fight in someone else's war. A good general typically uses his least reliable troops for simple and low-stress duties.
