The Cross Signifies the Center of the Mesopotamian Society
In Mesopotamian societies the emperor you know who was more or less an absolute monarch he lived inside what was essentially a walled city. The god of the Mesopotamians was Mardic and Mardic was the figure who had eyes all the way around his head and he spoke magic words. They would ritually reenact the battle of Mardic against tie-em-out the chaos monster using statues to wake him up. We still have echoes of that in our New Year's celebration right it's such a staggeringly brilliant idea.
