The Epistle of Clement

The Epistle of First Clement is a letter written in Rome and addressed to an unruly church in Corinth. It offers its Corinthian audience advice on how to overcome their present crisis, but scattering this advice among other, often more formulaic, and difficult to date. The letters reference to "calamitous events," which suggest that First Clement can very tentatively be dated to 96 or 97 CE. Like the Gospels before it, these are woven thickly with allusions to the Old Testament.
