The Battle of Marcius
The Carians gathered at what are called the White Pillars on the Narcissus River, a tributary of the M'andar River. Pixodorus suggested that the Carians should cross the river and fight with it at their backs,. This idea was rejected, and the Carians made the Persians cross the river to fight them. The ensuing battle was a long affair, with the Carians fighting stubbornly, before eventually succumbing to the weight of the Persian numbers.
