The Great Beast Attack
The Essex was sunk by a sperm whale less than 10 minutes after it attacked the ship. The crew of 21 men were left huddled together in what amounted to large open air rowboats with only the clothes on their backs and a bunch of now fairly useless harpones. Author Nathaniel Filbrick believed that it may have been a case of mistaken identity. But all this begs the question, why did the great beast attack? I hate them.
