The Importance of the Family in the United States

The boundaries of the racialized family in the United States have always been porous. The black family is an oxymoron in the US because it does not hold any authority against the incursion of the state, right? There's a very real sense in which you could be causing death if you forcibly reunify certain legal or biological relatives. And at the same time extending a hand of solidarity to queer kids in that family who absolutely doesn't want to be reunified.
